2. That is the exact number of laps the #01 Audi R10 remained operational at the Autódromo Internacional Ayrton Senna before its front-left suspension surrendered to the laws of physics. While Mike Rockenfeller comfortably steered the #02 Audi to overall victory in 20:18.627 over 19 laps, our garage spent seventeen laps sitting on upended tyre stacks discussing what went wrong. From a pure statistical perspective, leading the chase in second place for 100% of our active running time is a clear sign of underlying championship pace.
Fernando Horta (Driver): Running P2 behind Rockenfeller on lap one felt remarkably comfortable. The car was turning, the twin-turbo V12 was humming, and for two glorious minutes I genuinely believed we had put our Londrina nightmares behind us. I clocked a 1:04.350 on lap two, maintaining a cozy gap over Rinaldo Capello and Marco Werner. Then lap three arrived. I clipped the inside kerb at turn three—a routine touch, the kind of kerb strike a normal racing car endures fifty times an afternoon without complaining. Instead, our front suspension made a sound like a dropping filing cabinet and instantly converted itself into metallic powder. The steering wheel suddenly pointed toward the grandstands while the chassis continued straight into the runoff area. Capello crashed out on lap three as well, so in hindsight, my suspension disintegrating early was a brilliant tactical maneuver to avoid getting swept up in his wreckage. We possessed undeniable speed today. We simply lacked a car capable of surviving three consecutive laps of Brazilian pavement.
Faustão (Lead Data Engineer): Ô loco, meu! Look at those two laps! Who knows, knows on live television! The front-left wishbone did not just snap, it completely transformed into a hot bowl of cassava flour right there in turn three!
Zeca Pagodinho (Fuel & Hospitality Director): If the suspension broke, it broke. You cannot fight fate. Let life carry the Audi, life carries it straight back to the trailer. Hand me a cold Brahma and let us stop worrying about lap times.
Ps. Liz, if you are reading this, please send us stronger wishbones or at least a stronger crate of beer for the garage.
