October 10, 2026 03:00am

Mark Mayall wins the Melbourne GT2 sprint by 50 seconds while Fernando Horta suffers a lap 5 DNF.

50.492. That was the official margin in seconds as Mark Mayall took victory at the Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit in his #85 JVG Racing Porsche GT3-RS.

Mayall completed the 11-lap sprint in 21:35.238, securing first place despite a personal best lap of 2:02.673. Chris finished second in the #65 Team Red Bull Racing Nissan 350Z, setting the session's fastest lap at 1:55.117. Giancarlo Fisichella completed the podium in third for Team ING DiBa, ten seconds behind Chris.

Further down the field, Fernando Horta (#01 Borrowed B194 Porsche GT3-RSR) mounted a brief recovery drive, climbing from 26th on the opening lap up to 9th position by lap five. However, Horta's race concluded on lap six following a catastrophic engine failure.

Dr. Ivo Eggman Robotnik (Tyrant Motorsport Engineer): Ze engine simply disintegrated under ze stress of moderate acceleration! A trruly hidrrrous display of mechanical weakness!

Brock Tapp (Paddock Express): Mark, how did you secure a 50-second victory while running lap times seven seconds slower than the fastest car?

Mark Mayall: I kept the car on the asphalt and avoided the walls. It turns out that strategy is remarkably effective here.

Penny Pincher (The Daily Ledger): Dr. Robotnik, were Tyrant Motorsport components responsible for the failure on car #01?

Dr. Ivo Eggman Robotnik: Absurdrdity! My masterrrpieces do not fail—only ze driverrr's complete lack of skill is to blame!

Ps. Dave, please return the pit garage keys before the freight departs Australia.
