How do you manage to turn six thousand nine hundred and forty-eight metres of legendary Belgian asphalt into an administrative parking ticket without even selecting second gear? Lotus F1 Team arrived in the Ardennes with high hopes and a massive #01 Maserati MC12, only to leave the paddock with a disqualification sheet cleaner than a monk's conscience and zero laps on the board.
Look, I am not saying the timing screens were possessed by the ghost of Spa past, but when your entire race distance reads like a phone number with no digits, you start to wonder if turning the ignition key was simply too mainstream for a Thursday night. We fired up the V12, admired the scenery for three seconds, and apparently offended every marshal between Eau Rouge and the bus stop chicane.
Patrick "Paper" Head (Technical Director): It is the chassis, obviously. I ran the telemetry through my spreadsheet twice and found microscopic traces of sabotage in the wishbones. Someone smuggled foreign muamba parts into the front suspension before we even left the garage. Either that, or the car simply looked at the weather forecast and decided it preferred staying in the trailer.
Dave managed to secure a DNF in the sister #49 Maserati just to keep us company in the despair lounge. Solidarity in total incompetence: that is what the duudes are truly about.
