Four glorious, deafening, kidney-shattering laps through the park, and I spent every single second fighting for my life against seven other Chrysler Vipers! On the run down to the Variante del Rettifilo for the first time, Mike Hezemans in the #05 Force One Festina machine was right ahead of me, blowing sparks into my windshield, and I knew right then we were in for absolute warfare. I threw our #33 car into Lesmo 1 so hard I thought the side exhausts were going to shave the grass off the bank! By lap three, Patrick Simon was absolutely losing his mind in the #06 RSM car right in my rear-view mirror, diving under my rear wing like a guided missile into the Prima Variante, but I shut the door on him so fast he had to check his own pulse! Then you look at Pedro Lamy down in P4—the guy dropped a :1:45.949 fastest lap out of nowhere, which is completely insane and honestly quite rude, but who cares about a single rapid lap when we crossed the line holding off the entire pack for seven straight minutes?! I punched out a 1:46.988 on my cleanest lap, kept Hezemans in my crosshairs all the way through Parabolica, and didn't even lock up once at the Variante Ascari! My ears are ringing, my helmet smells like hot gear oil, and I am ready to do it all over again right now!
